Trail of Tears

During the Presidency of Andrew Jackson, Congress passed the Indian Removal Act which Georgia used to force the Cherokee out of their homelands, and onto a “trail of tears.” During this forced march some 4,000 Cherokee died. Why did it occur? What might this “Indian Removal Act” mean for other Native tribes in the future?
