Sunrise Over Fallujah
Walter Dean Myers
I must admit that once I got this book that I though, “Oh, yeah, okay, just another war book; they’re all the same and so predictable.” However, Sunrise Over Fallujah had that distinctive difference. I found the characters to be hard to picture at first, but I loved how Myers used their backgrounds and the regions for their homes to bring out that basic characteristic of the person’s attitude. This helped me better see and better know what he was trying to describe to the reader. The most looked over fact was Robin’s letters to his uncle. At the beginning, he wrote about personal military things that average people can interpret about war. At the end, he wrote his letter in a morbid depressed way, like he finally understood why people don’t like to talk about war; they might describe it, but they can never truly show what they went through. I would recommend this book and I enjoyed reading it. I might even possibly consider reading another novel by Myers.
